my imaginary prop collection

In my dream last night, I had the following film-prop collection (I also wore all pink and had a beehive), in ascending order of awesomeness:

5. the blue balloon that falls in love with the red balloon in The Red Balloon.
4. in Krull, the widow of the web’s hourglass, it tells time AND protects you from building-sized spiders (BONUS!)
3. bill cosby’s ballet slippers from Leonard Pt. 6.
2. the rotating, singing sunset lamp from Joe vs. the Volcano.
1. Chevy Chase’s taxidermied squirrel from Funny Farm.

I’ve been noticing some out-of-the-ordinary (read: lovely yet completely bizarre, and in some cases sort-of-gross) textile/needlework projects recently. LET ME SHOW THEM TO YOU. yay.

Number A: Embroidered Yeti’s by Megan Whitmarsh:

That’s right, my dearlings, they are breakdancing. Breakdancing, embroidered yetis. Embroidered yetis also enjoy modern art:

I know, I know, it’s pretty much perfect. if you need a moment to dry your eyes, or to re-evaluate your life in the face of the Divine, I totally understand.

Number B: Teddybear Fetal Development by stephanie metz. (found on designboom)

This is just so… so… Special. You may not find felted, huggable anatomy lessons as charming as I do, but I mean, you have also probably never considered baking gingerbread fetuses before. and that’s just fine. to each their own. stop judging me.

Number C: Knitted Test Lab Bunny by jellibat.

Cuddly-gross is apparently my new favorite category of things. from the product description: “Some brain experiments were conducted on him, so he is a little vague some times. The top of his head just wont grow back. And at times his brain pops right out out!”

* no siree, I will absolutely not apologize for this pun. no no no.

the giggle bill

just in case you were wondering, here’s some of what’s been keeping me giggling over the past few days:

number 1: feltidermy

so so so beautiful-bizarre.

number 2: garfield-minus-garfield

basically, if you take out the annoying cat, this comic strip becomes pure, absurd hilarity.. and possibly poignant commentary on suburban isolation. (credit to taylor for sharing)

number 3: unrealized eye-wear fads

including but not limited to the monocle veil:

and sun visors:
